Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Micro School?

We're just small!

A Micro (small) School is exactly as the name implies; it is a small school. Micro schools have given way for owners to provide an alternative form of schooling to parents and their children. Typically, they have set-ups that are quite different to that of the average public school (e.g. Class sizes, academic term calendars, class times, additional curriculum subjects etc.) Here at Sky-e-learn, we provide full-time tutoring for homeschoolers. Our maximum class size is set at 15 students to ensure that your child/children progress at a speed that is perfect for them!

Can homeschoolers sit the S.E.A Examination?

Of course, and it's entirely up to you!

As long as your child is ready, they will be able to register and eventually sit the examination. Homeschoolers register to sit the exam as private candidates and on the day, report to a selected centre/school within their community.

With that said, your children are not required to complete the S.E.A Examination. Some parents plan to homeschool through Secondary School as well. It all depends on your plans!

FUN FACT: Parents of private candidates can choose not to have their child's results published.

Why is it necessary to register my child as a homeschooler?

It's a legal necessity!

When your child is registered into a government school, all of their academic progress and basic information is sent to the Ministry of Education. This continues as your child moves through various levels and the relevant authorities can clearly see that they are being educated (which is legally mandatory). Registering your child as a homeschooler allows the authorities to know that your child is being educated although their information is not in their school systems. This additional step protects both parents and tutors.

How do I register my child as a homeschooler?

We've made the process simple!

We have simplified this registration process for you. To have your child registered as a homeschooler, proper notice needs to be given to the Chief Education Officer of Trinidad and Tobago. Essentially, an email/document needs to be electronically sent with a few pieces of information:

  • Your child's name

  • Their date of birth

  • Your intent to have your child homeschooled and a general reason

If you intend to use a tutor for your child's homeschooling, a few more pieces of information would be needed:

  • Tutor's name

  • Academic qualifications

This entire document is created for you and the next step is simply to forward it to the Chief Education Officer. The response email/document that acknowledges your child as a homeschooler usually takes 2-7 working days. This response is saved and kept in your child's file.
